Description: Adso Haybank has had enough of the brigands who have been extorting money and food from him.
'Look, friend, I have one more favour to ask of you, and it's a terrible thing, too, that fills me with shame to talk about.
'You know that Bill Ferny I had you pay off, before? Well he's in with the local brigands somehow. My paying keeps them off my back, supposedly. And me, well...I'm just too weak to fight them, even with my friends here.
'But you? You're a good hunter, and I think you're a good fighter too! If you can drive off the brigands nearby, maybe I can get out of this mess. The brigands have camped out at the Old Sweetgrass farm to the north-east. Get rid of them for me, and I swear, it's the last thing I'll ask of you, and I'll pay you well, too!'
